Industrial robotics is the part of the field that already works and already pays. Articulated arms have been welding and palletising for decades, and the incumbents — ABB, Fanuc, KUKA, Yaskawa — sell into a mature market with known payback periods. News here is less about breakthroughs than about volume, margin, and where the installed base is growing.

The live edges are collaborative arms that can work near people without cages, and autonomous mobile robots that move goods through warehouses rather than sitting bolted to a floor. Both lower the integration cost that historically kept automation out of smaller operations.

Labour availability, not technical capability, drives most of this demand. That makes the sector unusually sensitive to wage pressure and to interest rates, since these are capital purchases justified on payback maths.
